West Virginia has some good perks. I mean I literally live on top of the mountain so my view is pretty spectacular. I do get to wear Ugg boots and scarfs without sweating or looking like a goof. The thing that gets me though is the small towns. I am use to being around tons of people and having stuff today. In my small town now there is one gas station, a Save-a-Lot, a tiny movie theater that shows I think 3 movies a day. That's pretty much it.
My daughters are adjusting super well though, that keeps me happy! Veah is loving her kindergarten class. She is even picking up the West Virginia twang. Desi is loving the walks and adventures that we get to go on. I think we may do a scavenger hunt later this week!
I am sure that with time I will grow to love this place. Besides time is all I have anyways!
Any suggestions on adapting for me?
Have you read "The Glass Castle?" Loved that book -- although it's sad -- and much of it is set in WV. Your daughter is adorable!
ReplyDeleteYou'll get to enjoy the great outdoors before you know it. You sound a little isolated, but trips to the city should help.
ReplyDeleteIt is different but West Virginia is great! I lived there when I was a child and I miss that place.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in a small town I got more involved with things like hiking and biking and now that I live in the city I miss those things!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your kids are adapting to their school! We recently moved so my kid started new schools and seem to be doing well too.
ReplyDeleteI have only visited WV. My favorite place is Harper's Ferry.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a urban area in upstate New York then moved to a rural mountains area in PA. I've been here 10 years and still trying to adapt. My issue is I miss having more people around. I also miss having more stores, places to eat and things to do. But I do love my close friends, the fact I have more property, I feel more at peace and love the cleaner air.
ReplyDeleteDon't look for tips. Experience the adaption yourself. There is so much to do in NY but I feel so acclimated, I don't do anything really.
ReplyDeleteoh goodness I don't know if I have any good advice, wish I did though!
ReplyDeleteIt's a huge adjustment and I'm glad you're doing just fine! It's awesome that the kids are loving the new environment!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to visit West Virginia!!! Sounds like everyone in your family is loving it so far!
ReplyDeleteIt is really hard to move and see your kids adjust. We will be moving next year and my son will be adjusting again, I hope he will adapt well.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you guys are adapting smoothly to your new place! Don't worry you will get totally use to it in know time
ReplyDeleteIt's really going to be a little challenging when you move to a new place that's a complete opposite of your old one! It's good that your kids don't have trouble adjusting though, it could be more difficult if they were also having a hard time.
ReplyDeleteI can't relly say anything but to guarantee you that you'll get used to it in time. Just have fun, in any way possible.
ReplyDeleteAny move is difficult! There are a lot of things we will miss. However, we must just go ahead and make the most of the present. Learn and unlearn. You'll be fine. Embrace the new life in West Virginia!
ReplyDeleteMoving to a new place it always going to take some time to settle down both physically & mentally. And kids take some extra time to adapt to the changes around and it is great to see your kids are doing well on that part!
ReplyDeleteI have always found that moving to a different place takes time to adjust. It really does help when you have family as you can support one another and not feel alone. Wishing you all the best in your new home!
